By
Kumaranasan

(Kumaranasan was  a great Malayalam poet who lived in the first part of twentieth centuary. He was a follower  of Narayana  Guru devan.)

Translated by
P.R.Ramachander

1.SAkalasrayamay rathriyum  ,
Pakalum ninnu  yeriyum pradheepame,
Jagadheesa , Jayikka saswatham,
Nigamam thedina  b nin padambujam

Oh lamp  which shines  day and night  ,
For  providing  help  to every one ,
Oh God of the universe, let your lotus like feet ,
Which is searched  by the  Vedas  be  always victorious.

2.Arunodhayamai  pookkal poal,
Viriyunnu  karunolkkaram  vibho,
Thiriye theliyunnu hantha, nee,
Thira neekkunna loka  rangavum.

The  dawn has arisen  and like flowers ,
Your merciful  hands are   spreading everywhere  ,
And alas    slowly    we are  alas able to make out  ,
The  scenes  of the drama of the world , as if curtains  are drawn out

3.Oru bheethiyezhaathe   kathu  Dushkara,
Samsarika potha   yaathrayil,
Kara  kattuka ninnu nee  Krupakara.
Jnan dikkariyaththa Navikan.

Without creating   any fear in me  ,
In this difficult   journey by boat  ,
Oh merciful one   show us the  banks  ,
As I am a pilot   who does not know   directions.

4,. Gunamenni yoraalkku mennil  ,
Ninnu anayaayivaan   tharmaakanam vibho,
Anujeeviyulum  sahodhara ,
Pranayam   thwal krupayaale  thonnanam.

Please   help all those  people  to  get chance,
Only get good  from me , oh lord
And due to your great mercy   I should get,
Brotherly affection even  with  micro beings.

5,.Ulavaakanam   aathma thushti yee-,
Yeliyoningane   pokanam dhinam,
Ilakatheyum   indriyaarthiyaal  ,
Kaliyaayum   kalavu odhidatheyum.

You should   get  peace   in the soul,
Of this  lowly  person   and the days   should pass in  such a way,
That  I  am not moved   by passion created by senses ,
And even  for sake of fun I should not tell  lies.

6.Akhilopari    yende budhiyil  ,
Sukha dukhangalil   maththamenniye  ,
Jagadheesa   thelinju   nilkkanam  ,
Nigam thedina  nin padambujam/.

Above every thing   your  lotus feet ,
Searched by the Vedas  should  clearly,
Stand in my mind   so  that ,Oh God of universe

I do not perceive any changes in  pain and pleasure
